The Pine Ridge and Cheyenne River Reservations in South Dakota are part of a larger territory established for the Lakota in 1868 by the United States government and later parceled out to non-Native homesteaders and broken up into smaller tribal reservations. Today, Pine Ridge Reservation is home to about 40,000 Native Americans and Cheyenne Reservation about 20,000. According to the US Census Bureau, the reservations lie within the poorest counties in the United States.

ALLEN YOUTH CENTER ALLEN URGENT NEEDS: hand-held mixer, large capacity (64 oz.)blender capable of blending ice BOOKS, BOOKS, BOOKS The new program director at the Allen Youth Center is asking for your help in getting books into the hands of the Allen children. Specifically requested are the Junie B. Jones series and Newbery Award books. Stay tuned for more titles...... The center could also use: Games such as playing cards, Uno Cards, Jenga, Monopoly, Sorry, Trouble, Checkers. The center also needs toys: dolls with clothes, and building blocks. And as usual cleaning supplies, and office supplies such as a pack of large envelopes, Sticky notes, dry erase markers for boards, easel roll drawing paper, construction paper, snacks, and cases of bottled water would be appreciated.
